Kimihiro Watanuki finds himself tormented by unseen spiritual entities known as ayakashi that no one else can perceive. His life takes an unexpected turn when he stumbles into a peculiar shop, where the enigmatic Yūko Ichihara, a witch with numerous aliases and esoteric knowledge, offers to grant his wish of being free from these spirits. In exchange for her supernatural services, however, Watanuki must pay a price commensurate in value - he becomes Yūko's temporary part-time cook and housekeeper. As the story unfolds, Watanuki navigates this strange arrangement while confronting the ayakashi spirits that haunt him and unraveling the mysteries surrounding the witch and her shop.
