During World War II, the United States established numerous army bases in Great Britain as a strategic move to counteract the spreading of Axis power. Amidst this global conflict, cultural clashes between the Brits and the brash American GIs emerged, particularly when it came to romantic endeavors. The latter's advances towards lonely British girls often led to friction between the two nations. In this turbulent environment, a relationship develops between the married Army Captain John and the aristocratic Helen whose naval husband was deployed in the war.
