The White Sun of the Desert

The film is set in the rugged landscape of Turkmenistan by the eastern shores of the Caspian Sea, a backdrop against which the story unfolds amidst the turmoil of Civil War. Fyodor Sukhov, a Red Army soldier, has spent years fighting in Russian Asia and, after finally being discharged from hospital and demobilized, he yearns to return home to his wife. However, he soon finds himself embroiled in yet another battle when he is caught between the Red Army cavalry unit and the Basmachi guerrillas.The charismatic commander of the cavalry unit, Rahimov, persuades Sukhov to lend a hand in protecting the abandoned women who belong to Abdullah's harem. Rahimov leaves young Petrukha to work alongside Sukhov in this challenging task as he leads the cavalry unit on a pursuit of the fleeing Abdullah. Meanwhile, Sukhov and his new companions return to a nearby shore town only to find that it is also a destination for Abdullah and his gang as they search for an escape route across the border.Throughout this gripping tale, themes of duty, loyalty, and the struggle for survival in a time of political chaos are explored, all set against the breathtaking backdrop of Central Asia's desolate beauty.
