The Well Beloved One

The film, adapted from Dias Gomes' work, explores the story of Mayor Odorico Paraguassu as he strives to inaugurate a cemetery in the town of Sucupira. This ambitious project faces challenges from various factions, including the supportive Cajazeiras sisters and the formidable opposition led by Vladmir, owner of the Rag City. The mayor's quest is further complicated as no corpse arrives to enable the cemetery's opening. Despite the arrival of a dying man named Ernesto and the hiring of Zeca Diabo, a notorious bandit killer, Odorico's dream remains unattainable. As the story unfolds, it becomes evident that Mayor Odorico may become both the hunter and the hunted, transitioning from a villainous figure to a martyr in his pursuit of a seemingly unachievable goal.
