In the heart of an economically struggling neighborhood, we meet Starr, a resilient 16-year-old girl who has managed to secure a place at a prestigious suburban prep school. Balancing life between two contrasting worlds, Starr's reality takes a tragic turn when she witnesses one of her closest friends, an unarmed young man, being fatally shot by a police officer.
