Description:
This documentary unravels a hidden chapter in Ireland's recent history through the tireless efforts of Justice For Magdalenes, a small group of women who have fought relentlessly to bring light to the injustices faced by thousands of Irish women and children. Between 1922 and 1996, over 10,000 girls and women were confined in institutions under various circumstances: unmarried mothers, daughters of single mothers, those deemed "promiscuous," or burdens to their families or the State. Many had also experienced sexual abuse or grown up in Catholic or state-run care homes. These women, known as Magdalene women and the children from Mother & Baby Homes, remained shrouded in secrecy and shame until Justice For Magdalenes stepped in. A team of dedicated lawyers, academics, and volunteers, they have spearheaded a courageous campaign on behalf of these survivors. Through personal accounts, archival footage, and interviews with the women involved, this documentary reveals their extraordinary journey towards justice and healing for countless lives affected by these institutions' dark past.
