In Turin, Italy in 1969, nine-year-old Massimo enjoys an idyllic life with his mother, father, and younger sister until the sudden and baffling death of his mother shatters his innocence. Unwilling to accept this brutal reality, especially when a priest claims she has ascended to Heaven, young Massimo clings onto hope and searches for answers that may never come.Years later, in the 1990s, Massimo is now an accomplished journalist who's covered various international news events, including the war in Sarajevo. However, his experiences have left him with ongoing panic attacks, which are further aggravated when he learns about his parents' impending separation and decides to sell their family apartment. As he goes through his mother's belongings and revisits old memories, Massimo is forced to confront the ghosts of his past trauma once again.Enter Elisa, a compassionate doctor who sees potential for healing in tormented Massimo. She believes that by helping him open up about his childhood wounds, they can work together to address his emotional scars and find closure. With Elisa's support, Massimo may finally be able to come to terms with the tragic loss of his mother and move forward in both his personal and professional life.
