Foma Lukash, an honest and fair chairman at Rassvet collective farm, has always taken care of his people and maintained a sense of order within the community. However, when Foma starts experiencing heart issues, he finds himself in the hospital while his deputy takes over the reins at the farm. The deputy introduces new changes that favor some, extending working hours to accommodate those who prefer less strenuous mornings. As Foma recovers and returns to the fold, he discovers a different landscape than the one he left behind. He refuses to accept these new orders and demands an early re-election for the position of chairman, challenging the status quo and revealing the complexities of leadership and community dynamics.
