Red Sorghum

The heartfelt tale revolves around Jiu'er, who becomes the unexpected leader of a remote winery upon the death of her owner and husband, a leper. In this tight-knit, idyllic community, Jiu'er is supported by "my Grandpa," her secret lover who shares her vision for an alternative matriarchal society. When the Japanese invaders ruthlessly occupy the area, uprooting the cherished sorghum fields to make way for a new road, the resilient community members rally together under Jiu'er's guidance and decide to fight back.
