Lightning Over Water

In the emotionally charged documentary film about cinema and life, director Nicholas Ray (facing a terminal cancer diagnosis) yearns to complete one final work before his time runs out. German filmmaker Wim Wenders, who is already immersed in his own project Hammett (1983), relocates from Hollywood to New York with the singular mission of helping Ray realize this creative dream. At first, Ray intends to create a fictional narrative about a painter battling a similar illness, who embarks on an epic sea voyage to China in search of a miraculous cure. However, Wenders and Ray soon acknowledge the impracticality of such a journey given Ray's fragile health, forcing them both to reassess their approach to this poignant swan song.
