In the impoverished neighborhood of "Zen" in Palermo, the Ciraulo family struggles to make ends meet amidst the chaos caused by mafia gangsters. When a tragic shootout results in the death of one their children, the family is unexpectedly compensated by the criminal underworld. With this newfound wealth, they decide to purchase a luxurious black Volvo, symbolizing their desire for a better life and escape from their troubled surroundings. However, Trancredi, the young and impulsive second son of the family, accidentally damages the prized car, throwing the household into chaos and exposing them to further complications with the dangerous mafia members who had initially bestowed upon them their valuable gift. The film explores themes of family dynamics, societal pressures, and the corrupting influence of wealth and power in the midst of crime-ridden communities.
