Hold Back the Dawn

In a tale of ambition, love, and deception, Georges Iscovescu is a Romanian-French gigolo who dreams of making his way to the United States. However, he hits an obstacle in the form of the quota system at the US-Mexico border, causing him to devise a plan to marry an American woman and then abandon her. He teams up with his former partner Anita, who has also used this strategy. Georges' plans take a turn when he meets Emmy Brown, a sweet and kind-hearted school teacher whom he ends up marrying in order to fulfill his goal. As the story unfolds, Georges finds himself torn between his desire for a new life in America and the genuine emotions he develops for Emmy, leading to an unexpected exploration of love, jealousy, and the complexities of human relationships.
