Departures

Daigo, a talented cellist, faces unemployment when his orchestra disbands due to financial troubles. To make ends meet, Daigo and his wife relocate to his small hometown where they hope to rebuild their life on a tighter budget. Seeking new job opportunities, he serendipitously stumbles upon an employment interview only to find out that it's for a position in a completely different field - assisting an undertaker with funerals. This unexpected turn of events forces Daigo to confront his grief and embrace the traditions surrounding death, as he learns the art of providing comfort and closure to those who have lost loved ones. As Daigo becomes more involved in this unfamiliar world, he discovers a sense of purpose and solace that transcends his previous life as a cellist, ultimately redefining his own place in society.
