Mike, a sixteen-year-old boy from Faintville, Canada - a small town nestled amidst the Canadian timber industry - faces a myriad of teenage struggles in isolation. Without a father figure or a friend to confide in, and constantly berated by his nagging mother, Mike dreams of escaping this monotonous existence. One fateful day, he writes his own obituary and attempts suicide in hopes of bringing an end to the pain. Miraculously, he survives, only to be diagnosed with a plum-sized brain tumor. Unwilling to undergo surgery that could save him, Mike keeps his illness hidden, relishing in the newfound perception of life as he rediscovers hope and connection through an enchanting and unpredictable girl named Miranda. Facing mortality forces Mike to reassess his relationships and realize the value of true understanding in a seemingly mundane world.
