The film tells the story of Edna Gladney, who marries Texan wheat mill operator Sam Gladney and experiences a devastating loss when their young son passes away. She takes her fight to the Texas legislature, determined to remove the stigma associated with illegitimacy from birth records and ensure that every child has an opportunity to find a loving home.
