In October 1989, the culturally rich but isolated neighborhood of SO 36 in West Berlin provides a backdrop for this nuanced drama. Separated from the rest of the city by the imposing wall, a unique subculture has thrived among the bohemians and artists who have made it their home. At the heart of this world is Frank, the barkeeper known to his customers as 'Herr Lehmann.' Content with his laid-back lifestyle, he indulges in casual relationships and pays little heed to the outside world until his personal life becomes increasingly complicated. His parents arrive for an unexpected visit, causing tension and forcing him to confront his apathy. Meanwhile, his best friend Karl's behavior turns peculiar, and Katrin, the cook at Frank's bar, grows distant.
