Bálint Fábián Meets God

In a small Hungarian village during World War I, we follow the story of Fábián Bálint, a man torn between his duties as a soldier and his responsibilities at home. As he is stationed on the Italian front, forced to kill in the name of war, his family faces turmoil back at home. His sons take matters into their own hands when they avenge their mother's lover by drowning him in the Kraszna River. This act of vengeance pushes Mrs. Fábián into a state of insanity, leaving Bálint to return home and find his world in shambles. In an attempt to rebuild his life, he becomes the liveried coachman for a nearby baron, grappling with the consequences of war and the complexities of human relationships that have shaped his life. This poignant drama explores themes of loyalty, violence, and family dynamics amidst a backdrop of historical upheaval.
