Ay, Carmela!

In the backdrop of the Spanish Civil War, husband-and-wife duo Paulino and Carmela embark on an arduous journey as troubadours, performing and spreading their Republican beliefs through song across the rural landscape. Joined by their mute assistant Gustavete, the trio find themselves unwittingly venturing into enemy territory where they are arrested and faced with a terrifying prospect: execution at the hands of rebel forces.Their situation takes a dramatic turn when they encounter an Italian Fascist commander who, surprisingly, has a passion for theatre. He offers them a reprieve from their impending doom – but on one condition. Paulino must stage a satirical performance that parodies the very Republic they ardently support, as entertainment for the fascists' troops.As the fiery and patriotic Carmela grapples with this request, tension mounts between her unwavering convictions and the need to save their lives.
