A Five Star Life

Middle-aged and single, Irene (Margarita Buy) finds solace in her career as an inspector of luxury hotels. Travelling from one exotic location to another, she indulges in the finest pleasures these resorts have to offer but always maintains a level of anonymity, escaping to the next destination with nothing more than her checklist and laptop. Her emotional anchor, best friend and ex-lover Andrea (Stefano Accorsi), unexpectedly becomes unavailable, plunging Irene into a deep existential crisis.During one of her sojourns in an upscale spa, Irene encounters a fellow traveller who challenges the notion of luxury with a profound observation: "Luxury is a form of deceit." This statement sets off a personal journey for Irene as she seeks to add meaning and purpose to her life beyond the superficial trappings of wealth. The film explores her struggles, realizations, and eventual growth as she navigates through this transformative period, shedding light on the complexities of human relationships and the search for inner contentment.
