20th Century Boys 1: Beginning of the End

In the summer of 1969, Kenji, an elementary school student, and his friends constructed a secret base as they reveled in their imaginations of battling global villains and saving the world. Their wild dreams were documented meticulously in a Book of Prophecies. Fast forward to 1997, Kenji has grown into an ordinary convenience store manager who has long abandoned his aspirations to become a rock star. However, his mundane existence is disrupted when an old classmate tragically dies under mysterious circumstances and a whole family in the neighborhood vanishes without a trace. Simultaneously, a peculiar religious cult emerges on the scene, led by the enigmatic figure known only as Friend. As events begin to unfurl, uncannily resembling the prophetic entries penned down in their childhood, Kenji is left questioning whether they have unwittingly foretold the apocalypse or if the ominous Friend holds the answers to the mysterious happenings around them.
