The Slingshot

In 1920s Stockholm, young Roland navigates through life amidst a complex family dynamic and societal challenges. His socialist father, Jewish mother, and boxing brother all contribute to shaping his worldview while he quietly develops his own ideas about the world. As his rebellious spirit gets the better of him, Roland's mother engages in the illicit sale of condoms, which her son then repurposes into slingshots for resale. These creative endeavors draw attention from his schoolteacher, who consistently seeks to punish Roland for his transgressions. Concurrently, Roland's bicycle repair business flourishes but eventually leads him into unexpected trouble. Set against the backdrop of a tumultuous era, this coming-of-age story delves into the struggles and triumphs faced by a young boy trying to find his way in a rapidly changing world.
