Urusei Yatsura: Only You

In a whimsical turn of events, "The Story" revolves around Ataru, a boy who, as a mere six-year-old, unknowingly proposes marriage to Elle through the ancient custom of stepping on her shadow during an offbeat game of shadow-tag. Eleven years later, Elle returns to Earth with the intention of fulfilling their childhood union; however, she encounters a considerable challenge in that Ataru has since forgotten the incident and is now romantically involved with Lum. The movie's core narrative unfolds as Lum takes it upon herself to thwart Elle's marriage proposal, adding an amusing layer to this unusual love triangle. Directed by Mamoru Oshii, the film showcases his artistic vision despite numerous requests from producers for alterations. For manga artist Rumiko Takahashi, this movie is particularly special as it remains closest to the original series' essence.
