Slicker Smith and Herbie Brown are small-time con artists running from the law when they stumble upon an unexpected opportunity for a fresh start: joining the Army. Unbeknownst to them, their pursuing cop, Sergeant Andrews, finds himself in the same position as their new drill instructor. The film follows the chaotic and amusing journey of these mismatched individuals as they navigate military life while still trying to outsmart one another. In a separate plot, a rich young man and his former working-class chauffeur find themselves thrust into the same unit, only adding to the comedic confusion that ensues. To top it all off, a pretty girl caught in the middle of these tangled relationships seems to be equally attracted to both men, setting the stage for a delightful romantic subplot.
