Description:
In June 1946, Joseph Stalin makes an intriguing proposal: he invites Russian emigres from around the world to return to the Soviet Union. However, this seemingly generous gesture hides a sinister intent; those who accept his invitation find themselves trapped in a web of execution and imprisonment as soon as they set foot on their homeland's soil. One such family, comprising a physician and his French wife along with their children, survives this treacherous ordeal when they arrive in Odessa aboard a ship from France. A miraculous twist spares them from the fate shared by others; instead of execution or incarceration, they are sent to Kiev.Despite now being physically safe, the couple's struggle is far from over. The wife yearns to return to her home country of France, but their passports have been rendered useless in this new reality. Her husband understands that they must tread carefully as every step they take could be a fatal miscalculation. Their lives hang in the balance as they navigate the perilous world of post-war Soviet Russia, caught between two worlds and uncertain of their fate.
