In a quiet, seemingly unremarkable small town, Clay finds himself entangled in a web of guilt and grief after witnessing his friend Earl's tragic suicide. The catalyst for this heartbreaking event is the affair that Clay has been carrying on with Earl's wife, Amanda - a fact that Clay now uses to justify ending their illicit tryst. However, as fate would have it, Clay inadvertently forms an unlikely alliance with Lester Long, a serial killer who sees himself as a protector and "friend" to Clay.
