In this unconventional tale, a Russian circus arrives stateside, bringing colorful characters and vibrant performances along with them. Amongst them is a timid clown who dreams of defecting but lacks the courage to make it happen. His bold saxophone-playing friend, on the other hand, makes an impulsive decision to defect right in the heart of Bloomingdale's department store.Amidst the chaos, he forms an unlikely alliance with a resourceful black security guard who helps him navigate this foreign world. As he acclimates to his new life, he unexpectedly falls for an Italian immigrant working behind the perfume counter. With each passing day, our protagonist charts his path through the American dream, facing the challenges and opportunities that come with starting over in a new land. At the core of this narrative lies the universal quest for belonging and self-discovery as he strives to find success as a musician in an unfamiliar landscape.
