Around & About
Around & AboutDescription:
This introspective film chronicles the unique experience of an unnamed Media Studies professor in the late '70s who, after temporarily taking over a role at State University of New York at Buffalo, finds himself unexpectedly living in his office due to personal circumstances. With nothing but time on his hands and an array of media equipment as company, he embarks on a challenging creative journey that becomes not only a mental escape from the cramped quarters, but also a testament to human adaptability and resilience. The film is born out of a 'what if' musing – what if every syllable of spoken text was matched with an image? Intrigued by this concept as a way to keep his mind engaged during his confined situation, the professor decides to take on this daunting task using U-matic machines and sloppy controllers. By manually cutting images for each syllable, he learns to anticipate and adapt with every rewind – a process that becomes an exercise in patience, precision, and self-discovery.
