Taylor Chain I is a raw and authentic depiction of life during a protracted strike at a modest chain factory in Indiana spanning the winter of 1973-74. The documentary candidly captures the tempestuous union gatherings, the palpable tension that simmers on the picket line, and the underlying friction associated with labor negotiations. Despite its powerful portrayal of industrial strife and worker's rights, the film did not see the light until 1980 due to financial constraints and a fire at Kartemquin, which necessitated an extensive re-edit. It was followed by the production of Taylor Chain II: A Story of Collective Bargaining, which began a year later, further delving into the complexities of collective bargaining.
