Set amidst World War II, the narrative unfolds around Carlotta, a tenacious circus owner who skillfully balances her precarious endeavors of maintaining her beloved circus troupe and providing for her lover. Amid this chaos, she finds herself in a delicate situation where she is compelled to smuggle not just refugees but also the esteemed mathematician Professor Máté into Yugoslavian territory. As if that wasn't enough, Carlotta's psychologically unstable son manages an audacious escape from his asylum and joins the already eclectic ensemble on their hazardous journey.
