The Book of Fish

Set in 1801, following the rise of a new monarch, the story follows Jeong Yak-jeon - an esteemed scholar who previously served the reigning king but finds himself exiled to Heuk-san Island as his patron's rule comes to an end. On this desolate island, Jeong encounters Chang-dae, a young, resourceful fisherman with profound knowledge of the sea and a deep affinity for Confucian philosophies.Their unlikely friendship unfolds amidst the rugged landscape of Heuk-san Island, as Jeong grapples with his newfound solitude and Chang-dae shares his wealth of maritime wisdom. Through shared experiences, they both find comfort and purpose in their isolated surroundings. The film explores themes such as loyalty, wisdom, and personal growth amidst the tumultuous political landscape of early 19th century Korea.
